"When the Light Changes" series
This is Rachael Errington's latest work, and is a series that she has spent the last ten years developing, using a water based wash and layering technique that she learned studying textiles before she completed her degree in Illustration. Rachael creates each piece as a journey from the last, and every work is completely different, as there is no way to recreate the work twice.
The paintings have metalic pigments that reflects the light. They change as you walk past them, like the sun's rays coming out from behind the trees.
Her first painting using this technique was the beginning of an exciting and ongoing development in her artistic career.
Rachael aspires to recreate the depth of field one feels when looking out of the forest to the approaching horizon, where the light filters through the trees at various stages of the day.
Spending time walking in and arounds Queenstown and the Wakatipu region has added to her inspiration.
Rachael is happy to take commissions for paintings if you have a preferred size.
